Bringing Death Back into Life
Over four years, science writer Xue Zhu carried out fieldwork on death and dying in China. She interviewed dozens of people, among them dying patients and their families, doctors and nurses, hospice volunteers, an association that promotes advance directives and a death café, gathering the life stories, states of mind, circumstances and choices of people in China today as they face death. Drawing also on a wide range of front-line research in medicine and the study of life and death, she has written a book of death education for Chinese readers.
Facing our fears; learning, in farewells, to make choices for love; finding, in loss, the will to live well. The book tells us that death is not where fear begins but what teaches us to love and understand life, and that beyond grief we have more choices.
