Design for Living
Design for Living explores why the focus is on Danish design rather than Nordic design as a whole. The reason stems from historical context: historically, not only were the Nordic countries part of the Danish-centered Nordic Empire, but even most of England, Scotland, and Iceland were once under Danish rule. Despite a history of fluctuating relationships, their cultures and lifestyles share striking similarities. In the 20th century, Denmark, as a representative of Nordic democratic design, influenced the entire Nordic region with its design culture. Rather than discussing Nordic design in general terms, it is more insightful to start from its origin - the significant influence of 'little Denmark's grand design'.
