Asagao
Asagao is a collection of short stories by Shiga Naoya, known as the "god of novels" in Japan, which contains a total of 21 stories translated by the translator Lou Yiwei. It was first published in 1981 under the title "Morning Glory," and this represents a republication after more than forty years. Asagao includes not only the author's personal stories that delicately depict everyday encounters with people, events, and objects from a first-person perspective, but also some plot-driven historical fiction and dramas with controlled emotions. Shiga Naoya is a rare and esteemed figure; Natsume Soseki once commented on him: "He does not publish unless he is confident in his work." Yu Dafu also said, "His works are few, but the writing is extraordinarily brilliant; in the Japanese literary world, his stature is quite comparable to that of Lu Xun in China."
