Mahatma Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi, written in 1925, is the memoir of the renowned Indian figure Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as "Mahatma" Gandhi. Its subtitle is "The Story of My Experiments with Truth."
When people think of Gandhi, they often associate him with non-violence, the Indian independence movement, vegetarianism, and asceticism. However, Gandhi was not always the person he is famous for being. As a child, he secretly ate meat, was enamored with smoking, and even attempted suicide. He married at thirteen and long struggled with carnal desires and jealousy. By the time he wrote this autobiography, Gandhi was a revered public figure, yet he candidly revealed these aspects of his life without any concealment, embodying honesty and humility.
Despite his globally recognized political achievements and the fame that came with them, Gandhi did not regard them as significant. He often found the title "Mahatma" painful and unenjoyable. As he stated in his autobiography, his intention was not to write a true autobiography but to share his many stories of seeking truth. Through his autobiography, we can see Gandhi as a timid, clumsy person, full of human flaws......
